Skiathos Nautical Club
The Skiathos Nautical Club was founded in 1983 by a group of people united by their love for the sea and nautical sports. After all, the people of Skiathos have always been sailors and lovers of the sea, and Skiathos is an island with a proud maritime tradition. The creation of a Nautical Club on the island was deemed necessary so that children and young people could continue this tradition by learning the secrets of the sea, sailing, and nautical sports.
This effort came to a halt after some years, and the Nautical Club remained inactive until 1998, when a new group of Skiathians reactivated it. However, this initiative also came to an unfortunate end in 2003 due to various issues.
During its active years, the Skiathos Nautical Club was based in a space granted by the Municipality of Skiathos in the area of Agios Georgios (St. George), which also included a prefabricated wooden building for its facilities, also donated by the Municipality.
The Club became a member of the Hellenic Sailing Federation and was mainly active in teaching sailing to children and young people, as well as participating in competitions with Optimist and Laser boats. It also offered sailing courses for adults through Offshore Sailing Schools.
In 2013, efforts began to re-establish the Club, and in October 2014, with a new board of directors—consisting mainly of young individuals—it was reactivated. Their vision is to make sailing a part of everyday life for the people of Skiathos, regardless of age, and especially for children and youth.
